Each week, Josh and I carve out one evening to grab dinner at Los Tres Magueyes. Tonight was that night. Now, I’m writing this post with a borderline-uncomfortably-full (but happy) stomach.

We’ve become somewhat of regulars at Los Tres. We no longer need to even glance at the menus before we order, and one of the servers actually knows our order by heart (Fajitas Tejanas and a Diet Coke for Josh, some kind of Chicken Quesadilla with Rice and water for me).

With how much time (and money!) we spend at Los Tres, it only felt fitting to write my first restaurant review on it.

As a reminder, I’ll rate this restaurant on a scale of 1-5 stars in five different categories. If you need a refresher, or if this is your first John Denn Restaurant Review, our categories include:

  • Service. This score is based on the customer service we receive from the moment we arrive until the moment we tip and leave.
  • Vibe. This score is based on the general “vibe” of the restaurant, everything from décor to music.
  • Cleanliness. This score is based on how clean and well-maintained the restaurant is.
  • Food Quality and Taste. Duh! This score is based on how good the food tastes.
  • Buck Bangness. This score is based on how well the experience justifies the price — the “bang for our buck,” if you will.

I can hear that you may be asking yourself: But John, what are your credentials? Well, my cynical friend, I have been eating and enjoying food for 30 years now, so I consider myself somewhat of an expert in this bodily function.

And now, let’s get into my review of Los Tres Magueyes.

It’s important to note that, for this review, we are focusing on the Brier Creek Los Tres Magueyes location.

Service: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

From the moment you sit down until the moment you leave, service at Los Tres (for the most part) is consistently fast and friendly. We’ve been able to get in and out within thirty minutes on multiple occasions. Rarely, things are uncharacteristically slow.

Also, the “Chip Lady” (as we call her) is adorably sweet. She greets us every time with a bowl of chips and an, “Hola, amigos!”

Vibe: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

Los Tres is exactly what you’d expect from a Mexican restaurant. There are lots of brightly-painted walls and Spanish-inspired art.

Cleanliness: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

Los Tres also meets the mark in cleanliness. The space feels clean and hygienic.

Food Quality & Taste: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

Los Tres has some of my favorite Mexican food ever. I don’t know what they put in their quesadillas, but I’ve been unable to replicate the taste on my own.

Additionally, the portions are huge. I always take half my meal home and eat it the next day.

Bang Buckness: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

Los Tres’s prices are fair and, depending on what you order, can be on the more inexpensive side. We are often able to get dinner for two for roughly $30. (And Josh’s Fajitas Tejanas is one of the most expensive items on the menu.) Considering how large the portions are, you really get a ton of food for what you pay.

Plus, Los Tres runs competitive specials every single day. If you go with one of these options, you’ll be able to dine for less than $10 on a meal.

Los Tres Magueyes – Overall Score: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

Overall, Los Tres Magueyes earns itself 3.6 stars, which we’ll round up to 4.

Los Tres Magueyes is a solid, affordable, delicious Mexican restaurant located in Northwest Raleigh, where you’re bound to have a great dining experience. Whether you’re a resident or visitor of Raleigh, Los Tres Magueyes (Brier Creek) should definitely be a contender the next time you’re craving Mexican food.

It’s our favorite Mexican restaurant for a reason!
