Here’s How We Celebrated Our Dog’s First Birthday

We obviously love our dogs here on The John Denn Blog, and we're always looking for reasons and ways to spoil them. So when our dog turned one last week, we of course had to turn our dog's first birthday into a full-day celebration. Anything else would've just been inappropriate.

So in this post, I'm sharing with you all the ways we celebrated our #1 gal for the day. And if you're a dog mom/dog dad yourself with an upcoming dog-child birthday, feel free to steal some ideas. 😉

From the moment we rolled out of bed, we filled our day with hugs and couch cuddles and kisses. (And treats, too. We had so many treats today.)

We also took a trip to PetsSmart to do some birthday gift shopping. (Duh.) Today, the rules were simple. We'd do two laps around the store – and anything Raleigh picked up off the shelf, we would buy. And as you can see, she was very excited for the free-for-all.

While picking things up at PetSmart was fun and all, the highlight of our trip for Raleigh was definitely getting to play with the birds behind the glass. I'm not sure if we were supposed to let her do this – you know, terrorize the birds – but it was only a few moments. And it was her birthday, after all.

Unsurprisingly, Raleigh made out like a total bandit. Stuffed animals, peanut butter cookies, chicken feet, a deer antler. This was not a dog who went without today. (Or any day, for that matter. I would not describe this girl as "wanting.")

Albeit, she wasn't too sure of the party hat I picked out at first...

But eventually, she got into the party spirit. (And sat still long enough for me to take this picture I so desperately wanted.)

It was a good day, indeed – topped off with an evening full of wrestling, playing, tug-of-war, more treats, and plenty more cuddles. And by the end of the night, she was completely tuckered out.

It's a hard knock life, being a spoiled little doggo. Isn't it?
